ZOFIA

Drama | In Developement

AMANDA is a young woman (mid 20s) who is currently working as a live-in carer for her great-grandmother, ZOFIA, a Polish immigrant who has just turned 100 years old. Neither Zofia nor her child, ANDRZEJ, (Amanda's grandfather) have ever spoken about their past in WW2 Poland.

When Zofia realises that she is dying, she gives Amanda a very special ring. When Amanda places the ring on her finger, she suddenly gets a flashback of Zofia's life at the beginning of the war.

Zofia's will reveals Zofia’s last wish - that she wants Amanda to sprinkle her ashes at her home in Poland.

When Amanda reaches Poland, she receives help from friendly locals to decipher Zofia's letters and tell some local history from WW2. This contributes greatly to Amanda visions and flashbacks that play out in real time of what her great-grandmother life. These include Zofia pretending to be a Prostitute to get out of a prison camp, seeing family members get shot, being separated from Andrzej for a year, escaping from Concentration camp trains, bombings, and hiding in sewers to aid the Warsaw Uprising.

Throughout the film, we see Amanda, trying to process the new information she is receiving, understanding the injustice of what the Polish people went through, as well as processing the grief of losing her great-grandmother.
